SOMETHING NEW SOMETHING BLUE: NEW AND EARLIER WORKS FROM THE PERMANENT COLLECTION
18 JULY – 30 AUGUST 2015
Curated by Ellie Ray and Emily Kennel
Something New, Something Blue showcases recent acquisitions alongside a series of previously acquired works from the Devonport City Council (DCC) permanent collection. The exhibition marries new works with earlier pieces from the collection's history, effectively borrowing a shared thematic interest in ‘the blues’. An examination of the psychological effects of the colour blue threads this exhibition together as the included works circle changing landscapes, aural dimensions, and flirt with the macabre.

THE BIG PINK: DONNA LOUGHER
The Big Pink is an installation based on Lougher’s journey through outback South Australia in 2013. Through figurative compositions and collages of images, the exhibition unearths the distinct culture, connections, and environment of regional outback Australia.
“The opal mining town of Coober Pedy, with its ‘dugouts’ is an important region to Aboriginal people as well as pioneering Europeans. Oodnadatta, once enlivened by the old Ghan railway, now exists with a heritage museum and The Pink Roadhouse as its hub for community, and visitors passing through. By sharing this work, my aim is to promote communication about place; a site, personified by its natural beauty, and the people who inhabit it.” – Donna Lougher
