DROOGS

The DROOGS, the Devonport Regional Gallery’s Young Members Committee, was founded in late 2009. The DROOGS aim to offer a range of creative art projects in the local community, encouraging a sense of ownership and belonging amongst the younger generations and the Gallery.

The committee, mainly consisting of local senior secondary students, is now regularly meeting at the Gallery to discuss initiatives and ideas specifically designed to engage with other young people in the region.

In February 2010 the DROOGS held the first Four 8 Filmfest – Script to Screen in 48 Hours. It was an outstanding success. Beyond this first initiative we look forward to the upcoming exhibition Youth Art Exhibition, North West Tasmania in April.

The DROOGS are now online through Facebook and MySpace. Many of their initiatives are sure to be broadcast through this exciting network. Be sure to log on and become a ‘fan’.
