Devonport Regional Gallery’s young members, The Droogs, present a fun and challenging weekend of writing, acting, shooting and editing short film in the 2016 Four 8 Film Festival.

Do you think you have what it takes to make a great short film in 48 hours? If so, get a group of friends together and take part!

All participating teams must write, shoot and edit a film (maximum 4 minutes) in just 48 hours. Teams must consist of a maximum of five people. Teams will be provided with a theme and prop to use in their film at the Festival Launch. All films submitted by the 48 hour deadline will be screened at CMAX Devonport and film-makers will be judged on how they best interpret their theme and prop.

STEP 2: Launch

Four 8 Film Festival Launch

Devonport Regional Gallery, 45-47 Stewart Street

All participating teams must attend the Launch. Teams will be provided with their theme and prop.

 

STEP 3: Submit

Submit your film by Sunday 6 March, 5.30 pm at Devonport Regional Gallery, 45 Stewart Street, Devonport. All films must be submitted in the following format: PAL Widescreen 720x576, MPEG2, bitrate 6 - 8 Mbps.

Frequently Asked Questions

 

How do I register my team? Register online here or just attend the Four 8 Film Festival Launch at Devonport Regional Gallery on Friday 4 March, 5.30 pm.

How many people can be in a team? Teams must consist of a maximum of five people.

Do I have to attend the Launch? Yes. At least one representative from your team must be present at the Four 8 Film Festival Launch. This is where you will receive your theme and prop to be used in your film.

Can I start working on my film before the Launch? No. All films must be completed from start to finish in the 48 hour period between 5.30 pm Friday 4 March and 5.30 pm Sunday 6 March.

When will I be given my prop and theme? Your team will be given your film’s prop and theme at the Four 8 Film Festival Launch, Friday 4 March 5.30 pm at Devonport Regional Gallery.

Do I have to use both the prop and theme in my film? Yes. Both the theme and prop must feature in your short film.

How short/long should my film be? Films must be no more than four minutes in length, including credits.

What format should my film be in? All films must be submitted in the following format: PAL Widescreen 720x576, MPEG2, bitrate 6 - 8 Mbps.

What happens if I don’t meet the 48 hour deadline? Only films submitted by Sunday 6 March 5.30 pm will appear at the Screening. Late entries will not be included.

Can my family and friends attend the screening at CMAX? Yes, the Four 8 Film Festival Screening is a public event – everyone is welcome to attend.
